Access and Opportunity

Why Does This Matter?

Walden University was founded in 1970 to provide access to graduate education that had long been restricted to an elite few. While Walden has evolved since then, the importance of access has consistently been at the heart of our mission. By creating opportunities for diverse working adult learners to advance their education, Walden has helped generations of alumni blaze a trail for change in their professions and in their communities. It’s why our mission matters. In 2024, over 50 years since Walden’s founding, it is more important than ever to provide all community members with equitable available access and opportunity to education.
