Online Classroom FAQs

How do I find contact information for my subject matter expert (SME)?

Your SME may have posted an announcement on the competency homepage with an introduction.  The best way to contact your subject matter expert is to message them through the “Connect with my faculty SME” discussion thread.

Make sure to click on “Discussion” within the competency you are working on, navigate to the “Connect with my faculty SME discussion thread,” and then post there.

How do I start a new competency?

Here’s how to start a new competency:

  • Log into your Tempo Portal: myTempo.waldenu.edu
  • Next to the competency you want to begin, click on “Start Competency”
How many competencies can I have open at one time?

Students can start up to three competencies at a time.  Once you have three open, you will need to submit an assessment in one of the competencies, and once your Tempo portal updates, will be able to submit another. The Tempo portal is updated daily with information from our learning management system.

Why can I only have three competencies open at any given time?

Our program is limited to three competencies at a time so you have a better overall experience with your Subject Matter Expert (SME). Once you submit the assessment for a competency, your Tempo portal should update within 24 hours, and then you’ll have the option to start another competency.

How do I complete a competency?

There are three steps to complete your competency:

  • Engage with your faculty subject matter expert
  • Check your knowledge:
    • Through the completion of pre-assessments,
    • Or if you program features them, through completion of a self-assessment survey and by completing all quizzes with an 80% or higher
  • Complete the assessment

For more information about the classroom, please see this tutorial.

How do I meet engagement?

You can meet engagement by navigating to the discussion area of your competency.  Depending on your program, you will need to either post in the Competency Discussion thread or post in the “Connect with my faculty” SME thread.  For more information about the classroom, please see this tutorial.  For specifics about your program, reach out to your academic coach.

How do I submit an assessment attempt?

To be eligible to submit the assessment for a competency, you will need to:

  • Engage with your faculty subject matter expert
  • Check your knowledge:
    • Through the completion of pre-assessments,
    • Or if you program features them, through completion of a self-assessment survey and by completing all quizzes with an 80% or higher

Once you are eligible to submit the assessment, you will then need to review the assessment instructions by clicking on “Assessment,” then “Assessment Instructions.”  After you have reviewed them and you are ready to submit, click on “Assessment Submission.”

You should then see a submission link available where you can upload your work.

I have 3 active competencies open and just submitted one assessment, how soon can I open a new competency?

The Tempo portal is updated daily with information from our learning management system. If you are unable to open a new competency after 9:00 AM ET the following day after your submission, please contact your academic coach.

How do I complete my Tempo Orientation and Welcome?

Your Tempo Orientation is meant to be a resource that you can visit as needed. You can find it on the “Get Started” page of your Tempo portal. It will remain accessible throughout your program.

How do I receive a 2nd (3rd) attempt on an assessment?

If you are unsuccessful on your first assessment attempt, you will need to reach out to your subject matter expert in the Discussions area of the competency to address any questions you have about the feedback you received on your first attempt and to request that they open the 2nd (or 3rd) attempt for you.

What do I do if I was not successful on my 3rd attempt at an assessment?

Please make sure to contact your academic coach for instructions.

How long after I submit my Assessment should I expect to receive my grade?

You should expect to receive a grade within 72 hours.
