Social Change Model of Leadership Development


The Seven C's

The Social Change Model of Leadership based on seven dimensions, or values, called the “Seven C’s”:

  • Consciousness of self,
  • Congruence,
  • Commitment,
  • Common purpose,
  • Controversy with civility,
  • Collaboration, and
  • Citizenship.

All seven values work together to accomplish the transcendent “C” of change. Each dimension interacts with one another as shown.

Leadership Opportunities


Association of College Unions International (ACUI)

ACUI offers a wide range of scholarship opportunities, from recognizing an innovative program to honoring new professionals to providing funds for professional development through scholarship.

  • Distinguished Honors – Honor dedication to the Association and profession throughout an individual’s career
  • Campus Awards – Celebrate innovations and programming that made an impact on campus
  • Individual Awards – Recognize professionals for their service to the profession or the Association
  • Scholarships – Acknowledge potential in students and professionals and support further development
  • Writing and Research Awards – Affirm work that increases the knowledge of the college union and student activities field

To join ACUI as a Walden member, please complete the following steps:

  1. Go to acui.org
  2. Click on “Login” in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
  3. Click “New Member? Click Here”
  4. It will then prompt them to enter their personal information, including their chosen username and password. All fields marked with a * are required.
  5. It will ask for Institution/Company. This is where you click on the magnifying glass next to the text box and type in Walden University (choose the one with address: 406 W Washington St.) to get linked to the membership and benefits.
  6. If it says your email is already in the system, this means you already have an account. You can connect with ACUI at acui@acui.org if you need help accessing it.

**Must choose a Customer Type (Undergraduate Student or Graduate Student) to receive correct pricing for event registrations. This is normally either undergraduate student, graduate student, or professional in higher education.

National Association for Campus Activities (NACA)

Founded in 1960, the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) is a non-profit organization that empowers members to amplify the collegiate experience through inclusive learning, meaningful connections, and engaging entertainment that transforms college communities. NACA serves as the central hub for campus professionals, student leaders, and other entities involved in the planning and execution of campus events and activities. The Association provides educational workshops and conferences, offers a range of professional development resources, and networking opportunities.

To join NACA as a Walden member, please complete the membership form. Members are added weekly.  You will receive an email once added.

Benefits include scholarships, leadership institutes, volunteer opportunities, networking and engagement opportunities, publications, and more.

Resources include Resource Library, NACA Connect, Employability Skills Assessment, Professional Development, DEI&A, Scholarships and Grants.

Grants and Scholarships

The NACA® Foundation offers numerous scholarships that are available to undergraduate and graduate students, student leaders, professional staff and associate members on an annual basis. Scholarship nominations are solicited each year. However, awards will only be made when the specific scholarship fund is above the designated minimum established.

Leadership Awards

The  Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award

Recognizes an organization that exemplifies outstanding achievements in leadership, engagement, service, and commemoration. The Chapter of the Year Award is awarded to a chapter who has set a high standard for other organizations to follow.

The Outstanding Virtual Leader Award

Recognizes student leaders who have contributed significantly to an organization by going above and beyond to engage members. The Outstanding Virtual Leader Award may be given to three outstanding officers or student/alumni members.

The Chapter Advisor of the Year Award

Recognizes an outstanding faculty or staff member who actively provides support and guidance to a student organization.  The Chapter Advisor of the Year Award is presented to an individual who sets the standard and provides exemplary service
to the organization and its leadership team.

2024 Chapter Advisors of the Year

The Chapter Advisor of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding faculty or staff member who actively supports and guides a student organization.

Jennifer Kozar received her M.A. in English at Abilene Christian University with a focus on post-colonial studies and her B.A. in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research interests include writing, rhetoric, and student-centered learning.

Dr. Nadia Delanoy is the President of the Walden Virtual Fulbright Chapter. Dr. Nadia Delanoy is the Director of Student Experience and an Assistant Professor in the Educational Leadership, Policy, and Governance department at the University of Calgary.

2023 Outstanding Chapters of the Year

Phi Alpha (Social Work)

The Phi Alpha Honor Society received the Chapter of the Year award for their exceptional commitment to social change, community service, and membership engagement. Members of Phi Alpha volunteered in their community a minimum of three hours every quarter.

Walden Virtual Fulbright

The Walden Virtual Fulbright Chapter received the Chapter of the Year award for demonstrating exceptional commitment to leadership development, community service, and member engagement by completing the Foreign Education Policy program. Walden’s chapter was also awarded the national Virtual Chapter of the Year by the Fulbright Association.

Student Veterans Association (SVA)

The Student Veterans Association (SVA) received the Chapter of the Year award for demonstrating excellent commitment to their members by finalizing an annual scholarship program and participating in their annual social change project that includes sending out Thank You letters to all of the VA Homes across the country.
