Chapter Advisor of the Year
2024 Award Winners
Dr. Olivia Creary, Chapter Advisor Phi Alpha
With over 30 years of experience in the field of social work, I bring a wealth of knowledge and passion for supporting diverse populations through clinical practice, education, and consultation. My professional journey has been deeply rooted in working with micro and mezzo populations, with a focus on mental health, trauma, emotional development, and human behavior.
Before joining Walden University, I dedicated more than two decades to the Broward County School Board as a School Social Worker. In this role, I provided comprehensive services to children and families, primarily from low socio-economic backgrounds. I continue to serve as a consultant for the district, lending my expertise to complex, high-stakes cases that require nuanced understanding and strategic intervention.
In addition to my work within the school system, I spent nearly a decade as an Assessor with a leading mental health agency. This role honed my clinical assessment skills, where I conducted in-depth biopsychosocial evaluations, established diagnoses, and collaborated with clients to develop personalized treatment plans. My work frequently involved crisis intervention and trauma management, providing critical support to individuals and families during their most vulnerable moments.
Currently, my academic and professional interests are centered on the intersection of School Social Work, Attachment Theory, parenting, trauma, and family development. I am particularly fascinated by how these dynamics shape mental health outcomes and behavioral patterns in both children and adults within educational and social service systems.
As a professor, I am committed to fostering an engaging, supportive learning environment where emerging social workers can develop the skills, critical thinking, and ethical frameworks necessary to effect meaningful change.
