Return of Unearned Tuition Assistance Funds
Tuition Assistance (TA) is awarded with the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded. When a student withdraws, they may no longer be eligible for the full amount of TA funds originally approved. In order to comply with Department of Defense (DoD) policy, Walden University will return any unearned funds on a prorated basis through at least the 60% portion of the period for which the funds were approved. TA funds are earned proportionally during an enrollment period with unearned funds returned based upon when a student stops attending. All unearned TA funds will be returned directly to the Military Agency of the DoD and not the service member.
The return of TA funds may result in a balance due on the student account. However, in instances where a Service member stops attending due to a verifiable military service obligation, Walden University will work with the affected Service member to identify solutions that will not result in student debt for the returned portion.
