(5 credits)

While the topic of inclusion and diversity is not new, 2020 was a wake-up call for organizations and institutions to re-examine their inclusion and diversity initiatives. Communities are looking for policy administrators and leaders as agents for positive social change. As a public policy administrator, advancing public policy initiatives in a variety of settings through a diversity lens is more important than ever before. This course explores concepts and theories of race, gender, and other constructs. This course also explores aspects of diversity and how they relate to public policy (i.e., critical race theory, social constructionism, intersectionality, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice). By examining best practices around equity and inclusion, students will evaluate various policies in terms of diversity and inclusion to address social inequities.
