PSYR 8210 - Psychotherapeutic Interventions: Psychodynamic and Humanistic (5 credits)

(5 credits)

This course will integrate psychodynamic and humanistic theories of personality and psychopathology with the study of the technique of psychodynamically-informed and humanistically-informed psychotherapy. Attention will be given to actual case material and the role of the psychologist in treatment. The psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives on the psychotherapeutic process itself will be explored from a variety of viewpoints including the contemporary psychodynamic relational/interpersonal, person-centered, and existential-humanistic approaches. Emphasis is placed on skill building and practical application. This course has an in-person learning component, which means that students will divide their time between online coursework, virtual synchronous classes, and learning and skills practice in-person. With this format, students have the opportunity to integrate online didactic learning experience with skills practice and demonstration.
