(5 credits)

Grant Writing and Management is an applied course designed to prepare students to develop and manage competitive grant proposals for research and public service initiatives. The course emphasizes identifying funding opportunities—particularly federal grants—and aligning proposals with solicitation requirements. Students will learn to craft compelling, evidence-based applications that include a project abstract, narrative, budget worksheet, budget justification, and curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé. A key component of this course is the strategic use of scholarly literature to support funding requests and ensure compliance with all application guidelines. In addition to proposal development, the course introduces key principles of post-award grant management, including reporting requirements, budget monitoring, compliance, and stewardship of federal funds. The course culminates in the creation of a complete federal research grant proposal, providing students with practical experience in both the pre-award and post-award phases of the grant lifecycle.
