This course is an introduction to the development of a positive therapeutic alliance with clients from diverse backgrounds and presenting issues. Students apply counseling microskills and mesoskills including verbal and nonverbal skills, listening and observational skills, facilitative and influencing skills, multisensory techniques, navigation of stages of a counseling session, and documentation skills. Students in this course evaluate their attitudes, values, and beliefs which can affect the ethical application of counseling skills related to diverse issues and cultures.
