This course explores current thinking on the role of technology in today’s elementary school classrooms. Teacher candidates study evidence-based practice for integrating technology with elementary curriculum to enhance learning through engaging, meaningful, and effective classroom experiences. Designed for aspiring elementary educators, the course emphasizes the role of technology in teacher efficiencies along and professional growth as well as how technology can support students’ diverse learning strengths and needs, foster collaboration, and promote creativity. Teacher candidates gain hands-on experience with a variety of digital tools, applications, and resources aligned to key content areas such as social studies, science, math, literacy, and the arts. Through practical applications, candidates have opportunities to enhance lessons by adding technology elements that encourage critical thinking and build digital literacy skills. The course also addresses ethical considerations and strategies for creating safe, equitable, and inclusive digital learning environments. By the end of the course, participants will have had multiple opportunities to develop a robust understanding of how to leverage technology to enhance student engagement and prepare learners for success in a rapidly evolving digital world. This course emphasizes the integration of pedagogy, content knowledge, and technology for a transformative impact on elementary education.
