How to Renew or Upgrade Credentials
Renew: Renewal requires 6 semester credits and completion of mandatory Alaska trainings within the five previous years. Alaska accepts credits for certificate renewal from all regionally accredited institutions of higher education. Preapproval is recommended for any credits not directly related to current certification field. 15 hours of preapproved continuing education units are equal to 1 semester credit.
Upgrade: Upgrading to a Professional Teacher Certification requires 3 credits of Alaska studies coursework and 3 credits of Alaska multicultural coursework. These must be completed through a preapproved program.
