How to Renew or Upgrade Credentials
Renewal: Educators renewing a 3-year, Level I professional educator license are required to complete 3 semester credits or 45 hours of new professional learning with at least 1 credit or 15 hours directly related to the licensure area. The remaining 2 credits or 30 hours must relate to the VT Core Teaching and Leadership Standards. Educators renewing a 5-year, Level II professional educator license are required to complete 6 semester credits or 90 hours of new professional learning with at least 2 credits or 30 hours directly related to the licensure area.
Upgrade: Educators may upgrade from Level I to Level II after 3 years of successful teaching experience, completion of 3 semester credits or 45 hours of professional learning in the licensure area, and the appropriate transition form from a supervising administrator. Educators may be eligible for salary increases for graduate degrees earned within their licensure field.
