Teacher Licensure Renewal

State Requirements for Teacher Licensure Renewal: Utah

How to Renew or Upgrade Credentials

Renewal: Educators are required to complete at least 100 hours of renewal activities every 5 years to renew a Professional Educator License (PEL). Activities allowed have been redefined and educators should consult the document, Licensing renewal Categories Conversion, to be sure renewal activities will be acceptable. In general, renewal activities include college coursework, state or district provided professional learning, and service to the profession such as serving as a cooperating teacher for a student teacher. There may be employer-required trainings that count as renewal activities such as code of conduct training, ethics training, and suicide prevention training.

Upgrade: Educators may be eligible for salary increases for graduate degrees earned within their licensure field. Educators should contact their specific school districts for details about salary schedules and requirements.
