Educators with a professional (5-year) certificate must complete 15 PLUs per year for a total of 45 PKUs to renew. PLUs were not required in the renewal year 2020. PLUs may be provided by school districts and RIDE approved providers or may include approved college coursework. Educators should seek approval before enrollment.

Aspirational benchmarks include National Board certification, advanced degrees, RIDE or national recognition, completion of NISL Executive Development program, and RIDE certification in identified shortage areas.
