State Requirements for Teacher Licensure Renewal: Montana

How to Renew or Upgrade Credentials

Renewal: Educators are required to complete 60 professional development units or any combination of professional development units and college credits. Each semester credit is worth 15 professional development units and each quarter credit is worth 10 professional development units. Additional information about professional development units can be found on the Educators Professional Learning website.

Upgrade: Educators must access the Teach Montana (TMT) online system to determine current license status and requirements for upgrades. In most cases, educators must complete a plan of professional intent (PPI) and/or earn advanced degrees to <b>Upgrade license class. Educators may be eligible for salary increases for coursework and graduate degrees earned within their licensure field.
