How to Renew or Upgrade Credentials
Renewal: Professional License holders must complete the equivalent of 6 semester hours or 90 clock hours during the validity period of their license. Certain licenses require English language learner coursework for the Renewal of licenses expiring after 9/1/25.
Upgrade: Advancing from an initial license to a professional license requires completion of a CDE-approved induction program. A Master Certificate can be added to a professional license by earning a master’s degree and obtaining National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. Educators may be eligible for salary increases for advanced degrees earned within their certification field. Educators should contact their specific school districts for details about salary schedules and requirements.
